The Tresher Totem

Our Journey

This was not what we originally envisioned.  This trip has evolved from the far-fetched dream of traveling to New Zealand, to a six month hiatus from "real life" and around the world tickets.

Hi, we are Wendy and Devon Tresher from New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  We are newly married millennials in search of the next adventure.  A few years ago, while Wendy was still in dental school and Devon had just started a new corporate marketing job, we had the crazy idea to move to New Zealand.  We had read and heard so much about it, and it seems one of our planets last wild and pristine places.  Devon is an avid surfer, fisherman, and all around outdoorsman.  Wendy grew up hunting and fishing as well, and is happiest playing in the woods and watching birds.  Living in Florida, we are constantly feeling the pressures of "progress", and have watched our hometown go from a sleepy beach town to a mecca for tourists who need a break from Disney World.  New Zealand seemed to have all the thing we love about Florida, but better, and without the ever-growing crowds.  But, it's a long way from home and the people we love.  Not to mention we would be spending a lot of time, energy, and money to uproot ourselves and move to a place we had never even visited.  Devon's brother, Ehren, suggested we take that money and take a trip instead, explore not only New Zealand but maybe some other places we had never been as well.  And so here we are.

Three years later, we quit our jobs, made sure mom could watch the dog, and bought around the world tickets.  This is our space to gather our thoughts, share what we see and how it affects us, and hopefully connect with others who want to know more and see more like we do.  We call it the Tresher Totem because we hope this journey will be one not only of travel, but of personal and spiritual growth as well, and because we hope our family and legacy will be defined by the lessons learned and truths discovered.  See you on the other side.
